We’re celebrating our one year anniversary in a BIG WAY by hosting a fabulous giveaway event from July 16-29th.
Tykes Bykes will be offering a Kids 12″ or 14″ Balance Bike as a prize in our anniversary giveaway. Thanks Tykes Bykes!
On our quest to make the learning process fun, safe, and pain-free (for both kids and parents), we found our balance bike! With its low center of gravity and light-weight frame, our lil tyke was learning to ride. He gained balance, confidence, and actually had FUN!. The time it took him to learn to balance on his own was unbelievably fast. – Tykes Bykes
My Experience with Tykes Bykes
My 4 year old daughter has been watching my 6 year old son learn to ride his two wheel bike for the past year. He’s pretty much gone pro and she’s been very envious.
She keeps asking me for her very own bike and was overjoyed when I told her about the Tykes Bykes balance bike that she could use to learn how to ride all by herself! She couldn’t wait to try it out.
I’m fairly handy with basic tools, but I turned the assembly of the balance bike over to my husband. He’s the biker of the bunch. His having actually worked assembling bikes for a leading bike manufacturer while he was in college, kind of gave him the upper hand. Bike terminology is pretty Greek to me.
It took him a little bit longer than I had expected to put the bike together. He noticed right away that there was no steering limiter on the bike, as shown in the pictures. However, I did remember reading on the Tykes Bykes website that they’ve made the decision to stop shipping their bikes with the steering limiter, so I wasn’t too concerned.
The bike forks did have to be bent a little to get the washers, nuts and bolts to fit as indicated in the instructions. The instructions overall could be improved upon to make things a bit clearer (for those of us who haven’t assembled bikes for a living!). But overall the assembly wasn’t too bad.
Once we were sure that it was put together correctly, my daughter went for a ride in our driveway.
She had a blast and even though she was wobbly and unsure at first, she got more and more confident riding the Tykes Bykes balance bike as she went along.
I know that learning to actually balance on a regular two wheel bike is one of the hardest hurdles to jump over when a child switches from a bike with training wheels to one without. I have some recent (painful!) memories of my son learning by trial and error.
I’m really glad that my daughter will go the balance bike route — learning to balance before pedaling. I’m confident that she’ll catch on quickly to using the balance bike as she practices more.
